Reel Borders Shorts

What is the Irish border to its inhabitants? A checkpoint? An opportunity for taking care of their neighbours despite their beliefs? An imperialist form of control and surveillance? A matter of identity? Commissioned by the Reel Borders project (VUB) and in cooperation with the Nerve Centre in Derry, four amateur documentary short films seek to answer these questions. Shot by Irish borderlanders, these non-professional filmmakers explore their personal stories using archival collections filmed in Donegal and Derry.

  • Derry the Oak Grove by Molly Phillips and Tom Hannigan
  • Triang Times by Emer O’Shea, Manus Brennan and Michael Mc Monagle
  • Connecting Borders by Gemma Gfeller

After the film there will be a Q&A with the involved filmmakers and the Reel Borders team.
